Child Life Specialist
Job Description
Pay Rate: $27+/hour DOE (Depending on Experience)
Schedule: Monday–Friday | Hours range between 6:30 AM–6:00 PM. Shifts will vary by coverage area.
What You’ll Do
- Assess pediatric patients within 24 hours of admission or consultation.
- Develop and implement individualized psychosocial care plans based on each patient's medical needs and developmental level.
- Provide emotional and physical support to pediatric patients and their families.
- Use therapeutic play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities to help children cope with medical care.
- Help reduce stress and anxiety associated with the healthcare environment.
- Create a safe, supportive, and healing environment for children and families.
- Educate patients and families about medical procedures and what to expect.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other members of the care team.
- Participate in child life programs, activities, and special events.
- Support patients at various developmental stages and adapt interventions accordingly.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, or a related field.
- Previous experience as a Child Life Specialist or in a related pediatric role.
- Current Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) certification required.
- Certification must be through the Child Life Certifying Committee (CLCC).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Compassionate, patient, and adaptable approach to working with children in a healthcare setting.
