Controller
Location: Orange Cove, CA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: President
Position Summary
The Controller will serve as the financial leader for a group of affiliated companies, overseeing all accounting and financial operations while serving as a trusted advisor to the President and ownership team. This is a hands-on role responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, and providing insight to support business decisions.

The ideal candidate is a self-directed accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership of the financial function, improving processes, and partnering closely with leadership. This individual should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and providing both operational support and strategic financial guidance.

Experience with multi-entity accounting, transportation, logistics, distribution, automotive, agriculture, or privately held companies is highly preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Financial Management & Reporting
  • Own and oversee all accounting and financial activities for multiple affiliated companies.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Provide accurate financial reporting, analysis, and recommendations to the President and ownership.
  • Monitor financial performance, profitability, and key business trends.
Accounting Operations
  • Manage daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure timely completion of accounting processes.
  • Monitor cash flow, expenses, and overall financial health of the organization.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable financial requirements.
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Analyze financial results and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop reporting tools and key performance indicators to support leadership decisions.
  • Provide financial insight to help guide operational and strategic initiatives.
Compliance & External Partnerships
  • Coordinate with outside CPA firms, tax professionals, auditors, and financial partners.
  • Assist with tax preparation, reporting requirements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain strong financial controls and identify areas for process improvement.
Leadership & Process Improvement
  • Serve as the primary accounting resource and financial partner to the President.
  • Evaluate current accounting systems, processes, and workflows.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support business growth by providing reliable financial information and recommendations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Previous Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong experience managing full-cycle accounting functions.
  • Experience with multi-entity accounting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and communicate effectively with ownership and leadership.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting privately held or family-owned businesses.
  • Experience in transportation, trucking, logistics, automotive, agriculture, manufacturing, or related industries.
  • Experience building processes, improving systems, and bringing structure to growing organizations.
  • Ability to operate as a hands-on financial partner rather than solely a reporting function.
