Job Description
The Cost Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the cost accounting activities within the organization. This role involves analyzing costs, preparing budget reports, monitoring inventory, and ensuring accurate costing for products or services. The Cost Accounting Supervisor works closely with various departments to provide financial insights and recommendations for cost-saving measures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the cost accounting function, including cost analysis, cost allocation, and inventory valuation.
- Develop and maintain cost standards for materials, labor, and overhead.
- Monitor actual costs versus standard costs and investigate variances.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports for management review.
- Collaborate with production, purchasing, and finance departments to gather cost data and provide cost analysis support.
- Conduct regular inventory reconciliations and assist in inventory control processes.
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process, providing insights into cost trends and projections.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles and internal controls related to cost accounting.
- Supervise and mentor cost accounting staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in cost accounting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Proven experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, techniques, and methodologies.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; experience with cost accounting modules preferred.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- High level of integrity and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
