Food Safety Supervisor
We are seeking a Food Safety Supervisor with a strong background in farming or food manufacturing to join our team. This role is crucial in overseeing food safety programs and ensuring compliance with rigorous industry standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working in food packing or manufacturing environments, particularly around equipment and machinery.
Job Description
As the Food Safety Supervisor, you will provide leadership and guidance to ensure staff adherence to food safety protocols. Your primary responsibility will be to maintain compliance with food safety audits (PrimusGFS, USDA, Organic, Customer, and Internal), manage testing procedures, and lead essential safety initiatives across multiple facilities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine daily inspections of facilities to identify areas needing attention and assign tasks to relevant departments (Maintenance, Refrigeration, Production, Sanitation, Shipping, and Safety).
- Oversee the Integrated Pest Management Program.
- Spot-check critical control points, such as Chlorine and Peracetic Acid levels, and report issues.
- Assist the sanitation team with pre-operational verification processes.
- Manage Environmental Monitoring Programs (ATP, Listeria, Air Sampling).
- Collect and review food safety documentation from various departments.
- Host regular Food Safety Committee Meetings.
- Assist Sales with customer food safety surveys and questionnaires.
- Maintain and update Food Safety Portals (Repositrak, Azzule, Customer Portals).
- Conduct routine traceability exercises.
- Perform other essential duties as designated by the Director of Food Safety.
- Experience: At least 5 years in food packing or manufacturing, with a focus on food safety, quality assurance, or sanitation.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field.
- Certifications:
- HACCP Certification
- FSMA Certifications (FSVP, PCQI, Produce Safety)
- PrimusGFS Standards
- Any other relevant training for maintaining Food Safety Management Systems
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe)
- Ability to write concise reporting summaries
- Knowledge of NAV systems is a plus
- Language Skills: English proficiency required; Spanish is a plus.
