Job Description
Job Summary:
This role involves the construction and maintenance of gates, pipelines, and structures, utilizing specialized equipment as required. Knowledge of confined space entry safety procedures is essential.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates with and guides workers in the construction, maintenance, and repair of gates, pipelines, and structures. Proficient in operating specialized equipment, including a crane, excavation tools, and small hand tools, as well as skills in welding and concrete construction. Conducts general maintenance as instructed, covering District facilities, buildings, and grounds. Provides training to Maintenance I and II. Adheres to District Safety Policies and Procedures. Works as needed by the district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of cement work, construction principles, small hand tools, general equipment operation, and confined space entry procedures. Familiarity with IIPP and work safety standards.
Essential Functions:
• Calculate material quantities for projects.
• Execute general maintenance and repairs on pipelines and gates.
• Maintain accurate records of materials used and time spent by oneself and those supervised.
• Interpret and work from blueprints or construction plans; and
• Utilize specialized equipment, such as a crane, excavation tools, and small hand tools.
• Demonstrate sound judgment and establish cooperative working relationships.
Physical Activities: Drive District vehicles for travel between job sites and repairs. Carry, push, pull, reach, and lift equipment and parts up to 50 pounds. Engage in stooping, crawling, crouching, and climbing during maintenance. Communicate orally with District staff. Utilize a telephone for communication. Stand for extended periods. Work includes exposure to dust, lubricants, cleaning solutions, and chemicals. Hearing and vision within normal ranges with or without correction.
Environmental Factors:
1. Exposure to the sun: 90%-100% work time outside.
2. Work above and below floor level: Some work on ladders or surfaces 4-12 feet above the ground.
3. Extreme Temperatures: Work in temperatures above 100 and below 40 degrees.
4. Noise: Occasional loud sounds or exposure to machinery.
5. Slippery Surfaces: Occasional work on slippery surfaces.
6. Oil: Contact with oil or grease occasionally.
7. Dust: Works in or around areas with minor amounts of dust.
8. Irregular or extended work hours: Occasionally required to adjust working hours or work overtime.
9. Confined Space: Work in confined spaces and crawl pipelines for repairs.
Experience: Five (5) years of general maintenance experience preferred with confined space training.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Must read, write, and understand instructions. Capable of making mathematical calculations. CPR and First Aid Certified preferred.
Necessary Requirements:
Possession of a valid Class "A" California Driver's License, with Tankard and Hazmat Endorsement. Failure to obtain a Class “A” within 6 months of hire may result in disciplinary action.
