Job Description
Hire Up Staffing is seeking a skilled Medical Coding Specialist for a well-known San Antonio, TX medical facility.
Temp-Perm
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
Pay: $25/hr DOE
Responsibilities:
- Assign appropriate medical codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services performed by healthcare providers using ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding systems.
- Review medical records, operative reports, and other documentation to accurately extract and abstract relevant information for coding purposes.
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines, regulations, and policies established by government agencies, payers, and healthcare organizations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, clinical staff, and other stakeholders to clarify documentation and resolve coding-related issues.
- Perform thorough documentation and coding audits to identify coding discrepancies, errors, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide coding education and training to healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and administrative staff, to enhance documentation accuracy and coding proficiency.
- Stay abreast of updates, changes, and advancements in coding regulations, industry standards, and technology to maintain proficiency and compliance.
- Assist with coding-related queries, denials management, and appeals to optimize reimbursement and minimize revenue loss.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of coding policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure consistency and efficiency.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of patient information and comply with HIPAA regulations and ethical standards.
Qualifications:
- Dental coding experience is preferred, but not required.
- Certified medical coder through AAPC or AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or other relevant coding certification required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in a healthcare facility or coding-related setting.
- Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and other coding systems and classification systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with keen attention to detail.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Proficient computer skills with experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems, coding software, and Microsoft Office applications.
