Payroll and Benefits Manager
Location: Fresno, CAÂ
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm (Overtime as needed)
Pay Rate: $70,000 to $85,000 annually
Job Purpose: This position handles all payroll and compensation activities for the company, ensuring accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll processing, benefits administration, and employee data management. The role supports the HR department in compliance and documentation efforts.
Â
Payroll Administration:
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including wages, commissions, bonuses, and payroll accruals.
- Maintain accurate pay rates, track union pay scale increases, and update deductions.
- Analyze and process meal break penalties and various employee payments.
- Handle payroll tax returns and reconciliations.
- Serve as a point of contact for employee pay questions.
Paid Time Off (PTO) Management:
- Apply and adjust PTO benefit accruals and track usage.
- Manage annual holiday and payroll schedules, and coordinate vacation calendaring.
- Oversee office calendar and ensure accurate recording of employee hours and absences.
- Respond to EDD claims for unemployment and disability and coordinate time off benefits during LOAs.
401k Administration:
- Process and track employee 401k deductions and ensure compliance with IRS maximums.
- Handle employee enrollments, annual employer match calculations, and profit sharing contributions.
- Participate in the annual 401k audit and reconcile 5500 submissions.
Benefits Administration:
- Administer healthcare enrollments, reconcile benefits, and manage deductions.
- Coordinate COBRA on end of employment and monitor UMR self-funded account balances.
- Administer self-insured dental plan and process dental claims.
Employee Information and Data Management:
- Maintain and update HR documents and databases.
- Set up employees in payroll and benefits systems.
- Keep payroll records as required by law.
Compensation and Reporting:
- Create and update reports for annual compensation review.
- Perform compensation analysis and tracking for CFO.
- Compile and submit various surveys/reports, including Worker’s Compensation Audit and 401k audit/5500.
Accounting:
- Complete weekly check-run for HR bills and payments.
- Make journal entries for compensation-related expenses and accruals.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of Payroll/Accounting experience required.
- Strong knowledge of payroll and 401k compliance/administration.
- College degree in a related field preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Highly organized, accurate, and able to prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Dependable and able to work independently.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Able to perform essential office functions, including bending, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive tasks.
