Job Title: Referral Coordinator
Location: Fresno, CA

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Referral Coordinator to join our medical office specializing in surgeries. The Referral Coordinator will manage all aspects of the patient referral process, ensuring seamless communication between patients, providers, and insurance companies. This role requires excellent organizational skills, a strong understanding of healthcare procedures, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient service.
Key Responsibilities:

Referral Management:
- Coordinate and process incoming and outgoing patient referrals.
- Communicate with referring and specialty offices to obtain necessary documentation and ensure referral completion.

Patient Communication:
- Notify patients of referral status and provide instructions for follow-up appointments.
- Assist patients with scheduling appointments with specialists or facilities.

Insurance Coordination:
- Verify insurance eligibility and coverage for referred services.
- Obtain prior authorizations as required by insurance providers.

Documentation and Records:
- Ensure all referral documentation is complete, accurate, and uploaded to the electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Maintain up-to-date patient records and referral tracking logs.

Provider Support:
- Work closely with physicians, surgeons, and clinical staff to coordinate care for referred patients.
- Serve as a liaison between providers and external medical offices.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations and office policies to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Monitor and improve referral workflows to ensure efficiency and quality.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a medical office or healthcare setting.
- Experience with referral coordination, insurance verification, or prior authorizations preferred.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to handle sensitive patient information with professionalism and discretion.
Work Environment:
- Office setting with standard business hours, Monday through Friday.
- Occasional extended hours may be required to meet referral deadlines.
