Job Title: Staff Accountant – Government Contracts & Reporting
Location: Fresno, CA
Pay Rate: Up to $35/hour or more depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Employment Type: Full-Time, Temp-to-Hire

Position Overview
Hire Up Staffing is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-driven Staff Accountant for our client in Fresno, CA. This role requires strong expertise in government accounting, audits, and reporting, particularly for companies operating under government contracts in the produce industry. The ideal candidate has a background in compliance and regulatory reporting and is ready to support leadership with accurate financial analysis and oversight.
Key Responsibilities

Manage and maintain accounting records for government contracts in compliance with federal and state regulations.

Prepare, analyze, and present financial reports related to government audits and funding requirements.

Ensure compliance with government cost accounting standards and reporting guidelines.

Oversee billing, invoicing, and reconciliation specific to government-funded projects.

Support annual audits, including preparing schedules, reports, and supporting documentation.

Monitor internal controls and recommend improvements for efficiency and compliance.

Collaborate with management on budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis tied to government contracts.

Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.

Proven experience in government accounting, contract reporting, or audit preparation (produce/agriculture industry preferred).

Strong understanding of GAAP and government cost accounting standards (CAS).

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.

Excellent organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail.

Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.

Strong communication skills for both internal teams and external auditors.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience, with direct government audit/contract exposure strongly preferred.

CPA or CPA track a plus.
