We are seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join a growing public accounting team. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with clients while expanding your expertise beyond traditional compliance work into advisory and financial consulting services. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and enjoys building long-term client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Prepare client workpapers and income tax returns.
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and reports.
- Manage both cash and accrual basis accounting engagements.
- Prepare and file various federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Communicate directly with clients regarding accounting and tax-related matters.
- Collaborate with team members on tax planning and financial advisory projects.
- Identify opportunities to improve internal processes and operational efficiencies.
- Assist with special projects and additional accounting duties as assigned.
- Independently manages multiple client engagements with minimal supervision.
- Delivers accurate financial reporting and tax filings on time.
- Builds strong client relationships through responsive and professional communication.
- Demonstrates initiative by recommending process improvements and solutions.
- Contributes positively to a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 3–4 years of public accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and tax preparation.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and QuickBooks Online.
- CPA license or actively pursuing CPA certification.
- QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience with nonprofit or grant accounting.
- Experience preparing for financial audits.
